sunday was amelia’s second birthday — seriously…. she’s TWO now! i remember my first blog post when we found out we were pregnant & began this journey called ‘marine parents.’ everything that has come from doing this & the shop all belongs to amelia — without her none of it would even exist. crazy to think this wild two year old is responsible for an insurmountable amount of goodness in my life. well…. not that crazy.
to celebrate amelia’s birthday, we had originally hoped to have a party at the park but ended up changing our plans. instead, we treated amelia to her very first trip to chuck e. cheese!!
we didn’t really know what type of reaction to expect from her, but she loved everything the restaurant had to offer in her own little way. we sat in the showroom, ordered pizza & wings while amelia fell in love with a giant grey rat & the disco ball on the ceiling.
there were several big parties in the showroom in front of us & they had all sorts of birthday festivities going on. lots of clapping, screaming & yay!!-ing. amelia was not shy & joined right in with lots of her own cheers of celebration. she thought it was all a great game & was obviously having so much fun. even though she was clueless as to what was being celebrated she really had a great time & that’s what it’s all about in our book :]
after eating & watching the show, amel was ready to get out of her chair & play!! we got 40 tokens & let me just tell you now…. with a two year old, that’s a whole lotta tokens. a lot of the games were geared towards older kids, which we knew ahead of time. but there were a few “ride on” games like you see in the middle of the mall that she really liked. she probably spent about ten tokens on each one, not wanting to get off, totally content to sit & rock gently back & forth…. silly girl.
there was also a fun machine that would take your picture & then shoot out a quick “sketch” of the picture. we all took turns with amelia & then my mom & i both got a sketch of the two of us — hey…. for one token a sketch you just can’t beat the price! besides, those 40 tokens weren’t going anywhere fast….
finally, the adults were all “chuck e. cheese’d out” as caleb put it, so we wrangled amelia up, bought a whistle for 20 tickets & headed home for nap time…. but not before a little bit of typical two-year old pouting….

once we were home & amelia was in bed, caleb got started on some homework for his bachelor’s classes while my mom & i both passed out on the couches in the living room for a good couple of hours of napping. when amelia got up we decided it was time for presents!! we called caleb’s grandma on Skype so she could enjoy some birthday time with amelia, too :]
she got some really cool books from my parents along with some veggie tales DVD’s {which will be our best friends for the 12 hour flight to okinawa in a couple of months!}. caleb & i got her three little elmo toys…. she is obsessed with elmo right now!! i’ll be featuring some great elmo birthday decorations & ideas this friday in my “it’s oh so pinteresting!” post. you’ll definitely want to stop by!!
as a final celebration for our sweet little girl turning two, i ordered a couple dozen elmo shaped cookies from one of my friends from high school who designs cakes. she shipped them to us all the way from georgia & they were in picture perfect condition when they arrived! if you are looking for some delicious cake pops or cookies to be sent your way, please check out lulu’s oven on Facebook, tell her i sent ya & place a custom order for whatever you are celebrating!
it was a great celebration for amelia turning two!! i loved spending some one on one time with her at chuck e. cheese — a place i loved when i was a kid, too! and having my mom {amelia’s mimi} in town to help celebrate was a fun addition for amelia’s birthday. amel just adores her & it’s great to see them spending time together before we move.

happy birthday amelia –
you are always surprising me with your new feats & milestones. i love you more than i can ever tell you {even when you want to hit or tell me “no!”}. two years has flown by, but i look forward to so many years watching you grow & aspire into the beautiful little girl that God has created.
with all my love {and so much more}

What a fun post, sharing how you celebrated Amelia’s 2nd birthday. She is so cute and I love the photo of her on the “horse” with her face reflecting in the mirror. Glad your mom was there to help in the celebration! Hugs to all of you!
