check out amelia’s super sassy outfit!! this was her church getup yesterday…. it absolutely speaks volumes about her personality & i told caleb i would love to dress her like this every single day. she was just so adorable! she loves her crown hoodie & wears it whenever it’s chilly outside {somewhat rare around these californian parts *wink*}, her skirt is one i made several months back that magically still fits & of course her boots…. never a day without those boots! xo
after church, amelia & i came straight home while caleb stayed behind to do tear down {our church meets at a local school}. amel had a small snack before heading to bed for an early nap. a couple of hours later she woke up crying, which is totally unusual. she is usually a big giggle box, telling stories & jokes to her crib friends {read:: stuffed animals} until i go in & get her.
today, however, her skin was burning to the touch & she was all sorts of sweaty & out of sorts when i picked her up out of her crib. we peeled off some of her layers of clothing & took her temperature — over 102!! my sweet little baby has never had more than a low-grade temp during her ear infection fiascos last year. i got some grape ibuprofen going in her system & we pumped her full of ice water the rest of the afternoon. her temp came back down below 100 so we figured she was quickly on the mend.
by dinner, amelia was listless again…. she looked dazed & tired, hardly touching her food {& if you know my girl, you know she never passes up an opportunity to eat!}. we took her temp again — 104.8!!!! we put dinner away & headed to the ER. thank goodness it wasn’t busy & we had a pretty easy time there outside of keeping a nearly-two year old entertained in a small curtained room….
caleb was the official nose wiper & tried to get amel to sleep on the “big girl bed” but she wasn’t having it…. the tylenol she got in triage was working in her little system & she was feeling better already… her temp was down to 102.9 & she was ready to run & play! she peeked into the next curtained room a few times, requested my singing of “the itsy bitsy spider” about forty-seven times & pushed the trash can around like a shopping cart for awhile before the nurse practitioner came in.
a quick once over told us that amelia in fact did not have an ear infection {whew!!} but had a nasty case of tonsillitis — not very common in children as young as her. i grew up with strep at least once a month, so i wasn’t overly surprised, but still felt terrible for my little babe. we came home with antibiotics, motrin & tylenol to be administered every few hours.
{since writing this post at 12:30am, amelia has been up once for more tylenol…. poor thing}
the fever is slowly going down & hopefully the antibiotics will kick this nastiness to the curb quickly. i’m so thankful that even when amel is sickly, she still has her usual zest & lots of smiles to share with me.

Awww. Hope she feels better soon.
thank you so much — she’s acting like her usual self, but still feverish this morning. just working hard to keep her extra hydrated!!
So sorry to hear about your little one. We had a big scare with Brycen awhile back and it turned out to be a kidney infection. I hope she feels better soon and I’m glad you didn’t have to wait long. The few times I’ve had to take the kids to Balboa it was really quick. Best wishes.

we were at balboa almost exactly a year ago when we first moved here — her fourth ear infection in a month!! this time was much quicker, no construction going on in the ER & we actually had the same doctor!! way better….
Poor little princess! I hope she feels better soon.
